General Surgery
Our General Surgery Department is Administered by Dr. East who is a General Surgeon in Consultant practice for 20 years. He specializes in the treatment of surgical diseases of the Breast, Abdominal Wall, Bowel and Appendages, Endocrine Organs and Blood Vessels (see below for details). Dr. East is also a lecturer (University of the West Indies), clinical epidemiologist (involved in clinical research) and Associate Dean of the Western Campus of UWI (Faculty of Medical Sciences).
Our General Surgery Department performs the following procedures:
- Breast - Surgical treatment of benign breast conditions and cancer.
- Abdominal Wall - Hernias and tumors.
- Gastrointestinal Tract - Benign and malignant (cancer) disease of the
Esophagus, Stomach, Duodenum, Small bowel, Appendix, Colon, Rectum and Anus. Non-surgical treatments for hemorrhoids.(Infra-Red Coagulation and Rubber Band Ligation).. Esophagoscopy, Gastroduodenoscopy (Upper GI endoscopy). Rigid and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy (Lower GI endoscopy).
- Gallbladder, Liver, Pancreas and Spleen - Benign and malignant disease. Includes Gallstones (Laparoscopic or open cholecystectomy).
- Endocrine - Surgical treatment of Goitre.
- V ascular - Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Varicose Vein Surgery.
