Radiology Department

MoBay Hope Medical Centre since opening its door a decade ago has always aimed at providing quality services to Western Jamaica and neighboring parishes. With this in mind, MoBay Hope incorporated Radiology Services in its directory of diagnostic services.

Radiology is the branch of medicine that uses radioactive substances, electromagnetic radiation, and sound waves to create images of the body, its organs, and structures for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. Images can also show how effectively the body and its internal organs and structures are functioning.

Our Radiology Department offers the following services:

1. Ultrasound Ultrasound services offered include obstetric, Doppler (both venous and arterial studies), thyroid, pelvic and other examinations.	State of the Art Equipment
2. CAT Scans - Computerized Axial Tomography scan. It is a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body, taken from different angles; the pictures are created by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. Also called computerized axial tomography scan, computed tomography scan, CT scan, and computerized tomography.
3. X-rays Both plain and special x-rays are offered. Special x-rays include barium enemas, barium meals, hysterosalpinograms (commonly called tube x-rays), venograms and IVPs. MoBay Hope recently acquired Computed Radiography equipment. This means that all x-rays are now digital images instead of being done on conventional x-ray film. Advantages of this new system include improved availability of images to the patients (pictures can be burnt onto a compact disc) and images may be sent anywhere in the world for reporting.
4. Mammograms Screening Mammograms are offered to all females over age thirty-five. Diagnostic Mammograms are also offered.

Since April 2003 MoBay Hope has been offering Ultrasound services at our Falmouth Branch, presently located at 13 Rodney Street. X-Ray services were made available in time for the opening ceremony of ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007, with the installation of our unit in April of that year. These milestones have greatly improved the availability of diagnostic services in Falmouth and it’s surrounding.
